One day an electrician calls me saying the earth leakages he bought is “over sensitive”
I bought this new digital tester and they all trip around 22mA.
So I say: You do realize that ELD /RCD are subject to temperature variations, so on a hot day we still want to be sure it trips nothing higher than 30mA?
He says it might be true, but he has been testing these ELD for years now and never noticed it does not trip ON 30mA.
I say: But the older types only had steps not pots, so essentially it only checked functionality CLOSE TO 30mA.
He says: But I cant sign the COC (Certificate Of Compliance) like this?
I say: But you do know what the standard says – According to IEC Standard 1008/1009 an earth leakage tripping range must be between 50% to 100% of rated sensitivity and within 25 to 40 milliseconds”
How sure you?
As sure as my name is Gary, in fact I know that these are calibrated at the factory for 22mA so this must say something about the accuracy.
Check it out for yourself.
