Been working with star/delta starters for many years and not once did this cross my mind…I guess those were the days when energy conservation was not an issue.
Thanks to a doc I came across from Siemens…totally brilliant!!!
Ok, as with everything free there is a catch…Depending on how the motor is sized or if the process has cycles in which 1/3 of the full load torque will be adequate to drive the process, like a compressor or hydraulic pack…then switch it back to star…as simple as that.
Bottom-line…whenever your process can afford less torque from the motor leave it in star!!! HOW COOL IS THAT.
But remember..there is another thing I found about switching from star to delta – thanks to CBI industries…A horrible spike on the mains(claiming worse then if you had DOL), be careful of when you switch over to delta. To be discussed then, yes!
