Surge arrestors – Should they also have protection fuses/circuit breakers
Lets first confirm we are on the same page:- Surge protection gets installed in parallel from the main supply, so it is inevitable that the wire sizes for bigger installations will be an issue for an installer and secondly:- If there is no protection on the SPD and due to lightning or accident the protection goes dead short the surge protection wiring circuit needs suitable protection..
What does manufacturer say:
| Dehnguard says: | CPT(cirprotect) | ||
| Class 1: | If the main supply is bigger then 315Amp then add the 315Amp fuses. | When I got to know about them they professed same as Dehnguard – but has since changed to fuse protection as “per the manual” for the product. | |
| Class 2: | If the main supply is bigger then 125Amp then add the 125Amp fuses. |
This is a very elementary introduction to the topic..I still mean to do a deeper article – including regulations – on SPD…one day …or maybe if there is a reasonable demand?
Yes if you did not know – SPD takes up whole sections in the codes around the world.
